Catcher's Clinic
Here are some thoughts from players and coaches that attend the Catcher Clinics presented by Coach Richie Richardson, Head Softball Coach at Olivet Nazarene University.
"I enjoyed Coach Richardson's catcher's clinic on Saturday. The things I learned from him will make me a much better catcher. I'm very excited to try them in a game. Coach Richardson was a lot of fun and a great teacher. Thank you so much Coach Richardson for coming to BBYSL to help us become better catchers." HK - 14U
"I thought the clinic was very informational for first time catchers and for kids who have been catching for a while! We did so many fun drills that it is hard to pick a favorite. Even if you are just starting out catching, this camp could help you. If you have been catching for some time you probably larned something new or got to practice on a drill you were not good at." "At the catching clinic on Saturday I learned the proper way to frame the ball and how to transition to get balls that are inside or outside the strike zone. I had fun learning new techniques." ML - 14U

"I was very impressed with the clinic that Coach Richardson held this past Saturday. A lot of important information was shared with the girls, with plenty of time to work on what they were being taught. Coach Richardson was so good with the different aged level of girls. Coach Richardson was extremely enthusiastic yet down to earth. It was very enjoyable yet informative clinic. The cost of the clinic was "unbeatable"!" "It was very needed. There are a lot of catchers in the league that could really benefit from it [including me]. In my opinion all the girls that attended the clinic did benefit. I regretably could not participate in the whole clinic due to an injury but greatly benefited from the whole thing. You may get some comments back that it was mostly basic, well Coach Richardson tried to cover the essentials that will help any catcher no matter the age. As the saying goes- practice makes perfect, practicing this knowlege will only make it more natural. As for myself I really appreciated and enjoyed it! I am looking forward to the next one [hopefully I can participate in the whole thing this time]!" RL - 14U
"I found the catchers clinic saturday very helpful and enjoyable as a coach. Coach Richardson had the girl's attention from the very beginning and kept it for the whole 2 hours. They all eagerly participated in all the drills he put them thru, listened with no conversation between themselves, and did their best to follow his lead. I personally feel that all catchers and coaches that decide to attend the next session will find it as usefull as those in attendance this past saturday did. The clinic will absolutely help improve the quality of catching in the league over time if the girls work on the drills and techniques they learned. I know I have a few more drills to work on catchers with this year and into the future."
